15 Women in Horror Facts: Rob Zombie Edition

Whether you love him or hate him, Rob Zombie is a force in the horror genre. Having put himself on the horror grid with HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES and THE DEVIL’S REJECTS, then he moved on toward more mainstream success with his re-imagining of John Carpenter’s legendary HALLOWEEN series. One of the overall themes about his films is the strong female presence, whether it’s Baby Firefly, Heidi Hawthorne or Laurie Strode, Zombie has made ladies front and center in his horror films. So, to continue the celebration of Women in Horror Month, I figured some fun facts were in order and what better than the horror ladies of Rob Zombie’s films.

1. Baby Firefly from HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES marks Sheri Moon Zombie’s film debut.

2. Danielle Harris has appeared in 4 HALLOWEEN films; Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Halloween 5: Revenge of Michael Myers and both Rob Zombie Halloween films. Rob Zombie’s HALLOWEEN 2 is the only Halloween film in which her character dies.

3. You may have noticed a change in Mother Firefly from HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES to The Devil’s Rejects and that was because Rob Zombie could not afford the pay increase for Karen Black and in turn cast Leslie Easterbrook.

4. She’s a Hollywood IT girl now, but Emma Stone auditioned for the role of Laurie Strode, but the part went to Scout Taylor Compton.

5. In a bit of a twist, Scout Taylor Compton auditioned for the role of Jenna in FRIDAY THE 13th (2009) which went to Danielle Panabaker. Danielle Panabaker auditioned for the role of Laurie Strode, which went to Scout Taylor Compton.

6. In The Devil’s Rejects Natasha Lyonne (Orange is the New Black) was suppose to play Candy, but the role went to EG Daily.

7. Meg Foster from John Carpenter’s THEY LIVE, character’s name in Rob Zombie’s film 31 is Venus Virgo, while her character name in THE LORDS OF SALEM is Margaret Morgan. He must like the whole same first and last letter name game.

8. Even the small roles in Zombie’s films can lead to big things! Octavia Spencer, who won an Oscar for her role in The Help was Nurse Daniels in Rob Zombie’s HALLOWEEN 2.

9. Kristina Klebe, who played Linda in Rob Zombie’s HALLOWEEN speaks 4 languages, English, German, French and Italian.

10. Priscilla Barnes, who was Gloria Sullivan in THE DEVIL’S REJECTS was a Penthouse Pet of the Month in March, 1976. Which I’m sure you are all going to Google now.

11. Rosario Dawson (Sin City) was cast as a nurse in THE DEVIL’S REJECTS, but her part was cut from the original film.

12. If Megan from THE LORDS OF SALEM looks familiar it’s because she is Patricia Quinn, who played Magenta from the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

13. A staple in Tim Burton films, THE LORDS OF SALEM marks Lisa Marie’s return to film after a 11 year hiatus.

14. Angela Trimbur, who played Harley David in HALLOWEEN II was Tina, the sexpot teenage camp counselor in THE FINAL GIRLS.

15. The original Mother Firefly, Karen Black was Grammy nominated for the album Nashville (1975), in which she wrote 2 songs, Memphis and Rolling Stone.
