It’s that time of year when E3 rains it’s gaming info pixel goodness over the masses of gamers. As a gamer, albeit a below average one I still enjoy trying new games and keeping up on gaming info, which is why I really enjoy the E3 coverage. But, you guys know me so it’s all about the upcoming horror games that I’m most interested in! Here’s a rundown of some of the bloody horror goodness that will be coming to your consoles in the near future.
RESIDENT EVIL 7: BIOHAZARD – Available January 24, 2017 through PS4, XboxOne, PC and PSVR this new installment will harken back to the feel of previous RE games, but with a more amped up terror feeling with photorealistic graphics and immersive first person playing experience. Capcom also announced there will be a remake of Resident Evil 2, it will also re-release Resident Evil 4, 5 and 6 during the 2016 year with RE: Umbrella Corps being released on June 21st.
If you are currently a PlayStation Plus Member you have the ability to play the demo.
HERE THEY LIE – The small amount of word on the street about this game is that it’s tagged as “not your typical horror survival game”. This is an immersive VR game that puts you in the middle of the pants peeing action of a psychologically disturbing horror world filled with evil creatures and strange worlds. This is set to be released in Fall 2016.
DEAD RISING 4 – Frank West is back and he has brought some new toys with him to help mow down all those unsightly undead. Available December 6, 2016 just in time for the holiday season, Dead Rising 4 has added four player co-op, exoskeleton and the ability to take that all important selfie with some of your favorite zombies. This installment will take place 16 years after the initial outbreak and back to where it all began in Williamette, Colorado. Not only do you get to kill zombies in some really creative ways you get to do it all at the peak season of Christmas shopping, that’s right Black Friday zombie mayhem!
DEATH STRANDING – Coming from Hideo Kojima, the mind behind the Metal Gears series, Death Strandling stars The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus, as a man who wakes up on a beach with deceased marine life around him and a crying baby with a mechanical umbilical cord. Granted, it doesn’t sound like much now, but it’s got Norman Reedus and horror in it so it’s already scoring high!
STATE OF DECAY 2 – Jeff Strains founder of Undead Labs that brought you the first installment of State of Decay stated they listened to fans feedback and as a result this sequel will not be an MMO style game rather an immersive RPG, with up to 4 person player co-op feature, the ability to drop in/drop out of the game and will not require an online connection. What better to way to take on the undead!
DOOM: UNTO THE EVIL (DLC) – The insanely popular revamped Doom will release a DLC that includes, 3 new multiplayer maps entitled Offering, Cataclysm and Ritual, new player controlled demon called Harvester, a UAC EMG pistol, a kinetic mine, customizable features such as your DOOM Marine and armor patterns, colors and taunts as well as new hack modules. There will also be several new multiplayer modes such as Exodus which is a flag mode and Sector which is a hold mode as well as classic death match mode. Along with those additions comes a series of updates to DOOM’s SnapMap feature such as new props, weapons, constructions, logic options and more. This DLC will be available next month.
WE HAPPY FEW – Set in 1960’s England and developed in the vein of Bioshock, this world is a happy place and if you’re not happy then you’re a big problem. As always the name of the game is survival as you blend in with all the other happy residents without showing them your true feelings. I’m still on the fence on whether this could be considered a horror game, but those happy people sure are creepy and when you hit a pinata and blood sprays out there is no denying an underlying horror element.
CORPSE PARTY – This popular Japanese horror game has been remastered for the Nintendo 3DS with high resolution sprites, additional chapters, a soundtrack and 3D art stills. Corpse Party tells the survival tale of a group of Kisargi Academy students who are trapped inside a haunted elementary school with malevolent spirits and rotting corpses of missing students that had vanished from the school years or in some cases days prior. This will be available sometime in 2016.
