Indie horror is expanding not just from film, but also books and comics and although these creations do not have big studio backing they still find a way to bring their bloody goodness to the masses! That’s why sites like Kickstarter are so important to independent artists, who are looking to get their horror vision seen and in the hands of as many as possible. As a backer to several Kickstarters, I’m on the lookout for new elements of horror and it looks like writer Russell Hillman’s Slashermania may just fit the bill for many horror fans!
Set in the 1980’s, Slashermania is a 168 page graphic novel with the destination of summer camp as it’s venue, but this summer camp is different, it’s for slashers! As we all know slashers thrive in a summer camp environment. This looks like it could be a good homage to the 80’s horror of our youth (well at least my youth). You can check out the press release below for more information as well as the link to check out the comic’s trailer and help contribute to this summer camp slasher adventure!

Slashermania is an original graphic novel in the tradition of films such as Scream, Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, The Final Girls and Cabin in the Woods. Functioning both as a tribute to, and an examination of, the eighties slasher movie phenomenon, it’s mostly played straight but with an undercurrent of post-modern self-awareness and some appropriately inappropriate laughs along the way – carefully designed not to undercut the scares.
It should appeal to readers of titles such as Tim Seeley’s Hack/Slash, Williamson/Henderson’s Nailbiter and Alex de Campi’s Grindhouse miniseries.
The Kickstarter campaign runs from 13th August – 13th September. Neither of them are Fridays, but you work with what the calendar gives you.
